This fully restored residential Renaissance building, built in 1527, is situated in the Malá Strana district, right in the hearth of the historical centre of Prague. After the great fire of Prague, wich engulfed and destroyed almost all of Malá Strana, the building was reconstructed by the Mayor family. It is worth mentioning that the Dutch painter Bartolomej Sprangler, who belonged to the Rudolfine school of painting and who married into the Mayor family in 1570, decorated the facade of the building with beautiful frescos, a restored fragment of wich can still be admired today.
Lorenc Maiderle of Mansperck, an imperial tax collector, bought the "Spangler" building in 1617 along with two neighbouring buildings. In 1626, he made theese 3 houses into 1 building, wich is how is till stands today. In the year 1645 the emperor Ferdinand III gave his protection to the building tanks to the fidelity to the emperor given by the mayor family during the war. No militsry were allowd to rest in the Mayor`s properties. Also taxation free was another benefit given by the emperor. To show this protection the Mayor family was allowed to hang a flag with the empire`s eagle and to paint this sign on the building.
